HERITAGE OPEN DAY 2018

Queen Victoria and prince Albert made a return visit to Retford on Heritage Day magnificently played by Veronica and Mike Mahoney! Arriving in a horse drawn carriage accompanied by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and Chairman of Bassetlaw District Council, after visiting the Town Hall and listening to Victorian music hall songs from the Retford Community Choir, they toured the town and sampled the winning entry from the Victoria sponge competition at St Swithuns .
Through our free draw 50 people many of which were children were able to enjoy a ride in the fabulous carriage and pair, provided by KRM Carriages and kindly funded through the North Notts BID.
Trips on the Chesterfield Canal in the Seth Ellis proved very popular, and through the Retford Times two families were able to enjoy a free trip.

Despite the weather, we have received very positive feedback from the venues taking part and all  the events taking place appear to have been well supported. There was also added excitement when the Tour of Britain cyclists and their full entourage steamed through the town in the afternoon.

It's very encouraging to see so many people enjoying and interested in Retford's Heritage.
